This week we were lucky enough to have Kate from the Wiltshire Scrapstore come to school and bring with her lots of materials for us to make our own minibeasts. As you can see from our photographs, we had a wonderful time and made some amazing creatures!
Today we have all been working together to learn about a famous person in History – Louis Braille. We spent the morning discussing his life story and working in pairs, with Thistle class and Clover class working beautifully together to produce a super book of his life story. In the afternoon everyone then got the chance to create some braille patterns of their own and to understand.
Here are the children hard at work and describing what they have learnt in their own words:
This afternoon the children of Thistle class all sat down together and discussed what they enjoyed and found difficult about making their hobby horses. They then recorded the whole process in their own words. Here they are:
As part of their exit point for their topic of The Magic Toymaker, Thistle and Clover class today worked together to make some fantastic hobby horses. Using a range of materials and a sock from home (!), the children stuffed, stuck, coloured and enjoyed being creative, ending up with some amazing results which they then shared with their parents, after playing with their hobby horses, of course! Here they are enjoying a group learning session together. This is what learning is all about…
Today we have been learning all about our new topic The Magic Toymaker. We all brought in a toy that was special to us and imagined what would happen to them after we had gone to sleep at night. Her ewe all are describing our magic toys.
This week we have loved making frozen fruit lollies in class with real fruit. Today we wrote instructions for making them and we even got to try them. We then went into the radio studio to record what we thought they tasted like. It was great fun!
This week in Thistle class we have continued to think about people who help us and in particular people in our school. We then went for a walk around our school and thought about where our favourite places are. Here are the brilliant new Reception children describing where they like to be in school.
This year we have really reached out to further our international links and global audience and I can truthfully say that I feel we are far more connected than ever with children and professionals from around the world.
Today we held our last international day of the year with each class taking their own focus for learning and exciting learning. Thistle learnt lots of interesting facts about India and read a super elephant story and Clover class wanted to know more about Canada. Clover also had the opportunity to link up with Mr Hamilton and Grade 4 of Bayridge School in Kingston Ontario to learn face to face with our international friends, which was super fun.
In KS2, Lotus class looked at France once more and Orchid class focused on Ghana – they also have a cake sale coming up next week, so please come along to that to raise much needed funds for charity.
Everyone had such a fabulous international day and we have pulled everything together into s slide show below. The children also explained what they have been learning throughout the day. Do have a listen!
Today we really got excited about our Superhero topic by dressing up as superheroes and spending the day doing some superhero things! We have all had so much fun, have a look at our photos and see how amazing we looked!
What are you enjoying about your IPC topic this term?
